In 1866, the residents of Putnam County voted for a new “infirmary," which became the third county home to be built to care for the residents of Putnam County. The home was built in 1869, and residents moved in shortly thereafter. The County Infirmary continued to house residents until 1968. As time passed it became evident that the old infirmary was out dated and beyond repair. In 1966, the residents of Putnam County again voted for a new “County Home” to be built. In January of 1970, the new Putnam County Home, now known as Putnam Acres Care Center, was completed. In November 1974, Putnam Acres Care Center received certification as an intermediate care facility and became Medicaid certified.

In September 1993, the facility became Medicare certified. Putnam Acres Care Center's latest renovation occurred in 1995 and included a complete remodel of the skilled wing as well as the lobby area. On the facility campus is also six senior living apartments. Currently the facility has 88 licensed beds, all which are all dually certified. The facility offers 24-hour skilled nursing care along with physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Putnam Acres Care Center also has a Special Needs Unit which specializes in the care of individuals with dementia.
