In 1816, the Ohio Legislature provided for the care of the poor, indigent, and mentally ill by authorizing each Board of County Commissioners to erect and operate a County Home. As one of the first boards to comply with this act, the Greene County Commissioners purchased 104 acres for $700 in 1828 and authorized the construction of the first Greene County Home. Today, the community of Greene County continues to demonstrate one aspect of its responsibility to its residents by the provision of the County Home, known as Greenewood Manor (GWM). The Greene County Commissioners recognize that as an individual goes through life, circumstances may arise that prevent a person to perform activities of daily living. In an effort to assist an indvidual in meeting their needs, Greenewood Manor provides nursing and restorative services that enable the resident to maximize functioning within the home's setting or upon their return to the community. Levels of service include skilled and intermediate nursing care, protective and custodial residency, and short-term respite stays. Hospice services are available. |
